Yves Derains, former Secretary General of the Court of Arbitration of the ICC, is President of the ICC Institute of World Business Law since 2010. He is also former President of the Arbitration Court of the Jerusalem Arbitration Center (JAC) created by the Committees
Israeli and Palestinian Nationals of the ICC. He has more than 40 years of experience in arbitration matters. At the time of his departure from the ICC, he joined the Canadian law firm Phillips & Vineberg to create, shortly after, one of the first specialized arbitration law firms, Derains Gélinas & Associés, which later became Derains & Associés, and finally founded Derains & Gharavi in 2009.
Yves Derains has always devoted himself to the development of international arbitration. Successfully directed the work of Review of the Rules of Arbitration of the ICC adopted in 1998 and has participated in the revision of the new Regulation in force as of January 1, 2012. Yves Derains offers a double facet of referee and adviser thanks to its long experience. His competence has been particularly recognized in Latin America, where he chairs arbitrations in proceedings conducted in Spanish and Portuguese.
As former Chairman of the Committee Français de l’Arbitrage, Yves Derains is inscribed on the list of arbitrators of numerous arbitration institutions and participates in conferences throughout the world. He is the co-author of the book A Guide to the ICC Rules and Arbitration, 2nd Edition, (Kluwer Law International, 2005 – co-author E. Schwartz) which is the reference work in matters of application and interpretation of the CCI Arbitration Rules.
Yves Derains intervenes both as arbitrator or as President of arbitral tribunals and as adviser in arbitration proceedings governed by all kinds of arbitration regulations. Recently, he was appointed in several investment arbitrations that have been highly commented by international arbitration specialists.
